3 manuscript diaries and a manuscript textbook on naval warfare kept by Admiral Enoch Greenleafe Parrott. Textbook (c. 1840) gives details of building and maintaining a naval warship. Diary dated 1842-1844 provides account of actions taken to support African-American colonists in Liberia. Diary details attempts to punish natives for the death of an American seaman as well as the killing of people and the burning of towns and villages. Includes a description of a visit to the captured slave ship, the Uncas. In his diary dated 1844-1848, Parrott wrote of the end of his African trip and his activities during the Mexican War. Includes descriptions of landings and war activities along the coast of California and Mexico as well as an account of the raising of the American flag at Santa Barbara. A later diary (1852-1855) describes a naval cruise to the Mediterranean and the Middle East.
